Life Skills Coaching

Supporting Independence, One Skill at a Time

At our center, we believe that helping children with autism build practical, everyday skills is just as important as academic or therapeutic progress. Our Life Skills Coaching program is designed to teach essential skills that promote independence, confidence, and success at home, in school, and in the community.

Through individualized coaching and hands-on practice, we help children learn how to manage real-life situations in a way that makes sense to them.

Our Life Skills Coaching focuses on

  • Personal Hygiene & Self-Care
Brushing teeth, washing hands, toileting, dressing, grooming, and managing personal space
  • Daily Routines
Understanding and following morning/night routines, using checklists, and managing transitions
  • Mealtime Skills
Using utensils, opening containers, cleaning up after meals, and learning polite table manners.
  • Home Responsibilities
Helping with simple chores like sorting laundry, setting the table, organizing toys, and cleaning up.
  • Money & Shopping Skills
Identifying coins and bills, understanding basic spending, making simple purchases, and learning needs vs. wants.
  • Community Safety
Understanding safety signs, practicing street safety, waiting in line, and learning how to ask for help
  • Public Transit Training
(If age appropriate) Practicing how to ride the bus, recognize stops, and follow travel routines.
  • Time & Task Management
Using visual schedules, timers, and routines to build structure and independence

Our life skills sessions are interactive, practical, and goal-oriented, often integrated into real-life environments like our center’s kitchen, classroom, outdoor areas, and community settings. Whether through 1:1 coaching or small group practice, we focus on making each step manageable, meaningful, and empowering. We also collaborate with families to ensure that skills are carried over and reinforced at home. Because life skills are more than just tasks—they’re the foundation for confidence, self-esteem, and long-term success.
